Patrx played a three player game and the board became pretty crowded in the end, I don't want to know how the final turn of the game plays out in a four player game. It's a neat game, I think, not the most exciting or satisfying one out there but its quickness, portability and replayability are real draws. I'll reserve a deffinitive opinion until I've played it a few more times, though. After finishing Demon WorkerI strong-armed my two fellow players into a game of the vastly under-appreciated gem Gravwell: Escape from the 9th Dimension.
I don't know why this thing doesn't get more love, it takes all of the crazy chaos of RoboRallyputs it into a streamlined ruleset and pulls the whole thing off in thirty minutes or so tops. Yes, there's substantially less going on and the box is far to big for its content but it's so incredibly easy to get to the table and play it that I can't help but love it for that alone. As said, it's also loads of fun. Not in the "Remember when this and that happened? Where's that expansion, Corey? I need it! Next up I finally managed to get the fabled Biblios to the table.
I had heard great things about it, some people herald it as the king of fillers or something like that. I was previously familiar with Bernd Eisenstein's PAX which seems to be influenced by Biblios and which is pretty good if you asked me. Biblios isn't bad, of course. It's fast, it's fun, it's clever.
But it also has this wind-up-and-watch-it-go-feel of Demon Workeryou're just constantly preparing for the big blowout-ending without getting any real feedback on how well you're doing in the meantime. Sure, that's part of the draw, but I think in the long run, Biblios suffers mostly from the fact that PAX applied something more interesting to a similar framework. But I think that they are both small and quick enough to warrant a place in my collection at the moment. The penultimate game of the evening was Braggarta game that is certainly more fun than it has any right to be. At this moment at least.
Like all games based mainly on humor and not player-created humor but ni cardsI don't know how long it will hold up in the long run, but I'm still Wanting to suck in patra it quite patrx bit. You can always come back later. Yet at the same time, the game inevitably advances towards its conclusion and I don't think that it's possible that it'll drag too badly. So yeah, could be a winner, I'll have to try again to see whether our one weird game was an anomally. Oh, also the box is too small. Never thought you'd hear me say that, did you? But it's true, it's pretty hard to stow away everything in there and with the recently released expansion, things will become even worse.
